Energy Expenditure Study
We have a new research study to assess the effects of two short-term diets, with and without inulin, on energy expenditure in adults.
Inulin is a type of soluble fiber that can be found naturally in plants and foods, as well as supplements. We will be measuring how much energy your body burns after consuming a high fiber snack bar for 7 days versus a low fiber snack bar for 7 days. The energy expenditure being measured is the amount of energy your body uses while doing essential life functions like breathing and digesting.
The total study participation is 5 visits across approximately 4 weeks (total duration of study may differ for premenopausal women depending on menstrual cycle and hormonal contraceptives). Two of the visits require you to be at the clinic for a 9-hour period.
If qualified, you may be compensated up to $1,000 for completing all study visits and tasks. You will also receive study related care at no cost.
Qualified participants must:
- Be an adult between 18-65 years of age
- Have a BMI between 5-24.9 or 27.0-34.9 kg/m2
- Be willing to incorporate a snack bar into your breakfast routine throughout two separate 7-day periods, as well as during 2 in-clinic visits
- Be willing to consume a standard breakfast and a standard lunch during 2 in-clinic visits
- Be willing to attend two 9-hour study visits
