Weight Loss Supplement Study
We have a new research study evaluating the effects of a dietary supplement on weight loss, energy, glucose, mood, and appetite response in adults.
Recent clinical studies suggest berberine may impact appetite-regulating hormones like glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1); insulin sensitivity (how your body responds to the insulin in your blood); blood glucose levels and weight loss. Dihydroberberine (DHB), is a form of berberine that has the same characteristics as berberine but may be better absorbed by the body. The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the effect of a single dose of DHB and 12-weeks of DHB consumption versus placebo on body composition and other health outcomes.
The total study participation is approximately 14 weeks with 3 in-clinic visits. Two of the visits require you to be at the clinic for a 3.5-hour period. During these visits you will have an IV catheter inserted in your arm for multiple blood draws. At Visit 2, you’ll be educated on a lifestyle intervention program that promotes weight loss through caloric restriction and physical activity. Throughout the study, you will record your weight at home, weekly.
If qualified, you may be compensated up to $400 for completing all visits and study tasks, in addition to receiving a physical activity tracker and digital scale.
Qualified participants must:
- Be an adult between 35-55 years of age
- Have a BMI ≥ 27 and ≤ 33 kg/m2
- Consume 4 capsules a day for 12 weeks
- Complete 2 DXA body scans and 2 3D body scans to assess body composition
- Wear a physical activity tracker and weigh yourself at-home weekly
- Complete weekly mood, appetite, and energy questionnaires
- Download a smart phone application to track weight, physical activity, and food and beverage intake
