New Soy Study for Postmenopausal Women
We have a new research study evaluating the effects of a dietary supplement containing soy isoflavones in generally healthy, postmenopausal women.
Soy isoflavones are suggested to help support healthy aging in women, such as improving symptoms related to osteoporosis or various stages of menopause. The most active soy isoflavone is S-equol, but is not found directly in soy. Equelle is a dietary supplement that is currently available and contains S-equol. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how S-equol is absorbed and utilized by the body after a low and high dose consumption of this supplement.
Study participation involves 10 in-clinic visits over approximately 3 weeks. This study requires the completion of 2 clinic visits that will last approximately 13 hours. You will return the clinic twice the following day, once in the morning and once in the evening, separated by 12 hours, then again the morning after that for brief follow up visits. There will be blood draws at every visit, and during the 13-hour clinic visits, you will have an IV catheter inserted in your arm for multiple blood draws throughout the day. You will also be asked to collect all urine during the 13-hour clinic visits, as well as on 6 separate occasions outside of the clinic visits.
If qualified, you may be compensated up to $1,250 for completing all visits and study tasks.
Qualified participants must:
- Be a generally, healthy postmenopausal female; 40-65 years of age
- Have a BMI ≥5 and <30 kg/m2 at visit 1
- Be willing to have an IV catheter placed in the arm for multiple blood draws during two 13- hour visits
- Be willing to collect urine on 6 separate occasions outside of the clinic visits as well as during the two 13-hour visits
- Be willing to consume 2 servings of soymilk daily for 3 consecutive days
